Your first day is all about getting oriented. Follow the checklist in order.

Before you start

Your manager sent a welcome email with:
  • A link to activate your company email
  • Your start date and first-day schedule
  • A Slack invite (if your email is active)
If any of these are missing, contact your manager or HR before any other tasks.

Checklist

  1. Activate your company email — Use the link in your welcome email. Set a strong password and enable two-factor authentication immediately.
  2. Set up your laptop — Follow the laptop setup guide. IT ships all machines with a base image, but you’ll need to install role-specific tools.
  3. Connect to VPN — Required before accessing internal systems. See VPN setup.
  4. Claim your accounts — Log in to Slack, your project tracker, and the HR portal. Credentials are in your welcome email or IT’s onboarding ticket.
  5. Join your team channel — Ask your manager which Slack channels to join. At minimum: your team channel, #ask-anything, and #announcements.
  6. Read today’s standup notes — Get context on what your team is working on before your first meeting.
  7. Meet your onboarding buddy — HR pairs every new hire with a buddy. Reach out and set up a 30-minute intro.
